It adds a substance so called darkmeal (obviously related to bonemeal) that prevents growing.
What exactly does it prevent from growing?
It prevents dirt from turning into grass, cactus from growing and also makes them placeable beside each other so that you now can build a wall of cactus and saplings from growing into trees
Uses ?
The so called 'Dead Dirt' can be used to make nice paths, the saplings for decoration purposes and te cacti to make a mob proof wall or so.
Vanilla compatible ?
I think so. Maybe the cacti are a bit overkill
How to install ? & ModLoader ?
As every good mod this one too requires ModLoader.
Instructions:
Download the zip-Archive through the adf.ly link
Extract it with a serious kind of software like 7zip or WinRar
Locate the minecraft.jar by going to %appdata% and then .minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar
Make sure to make a backup before you now open the minecraft.jar with .zip Program
Copy everything from the downloaded .zip into the minecraft.jar
Delete the META-INF Folder!
Close everything before you start minecraft and you're fine
